With Apps taking over our daily lives it certainly facilitates learning on the go. I have come across quite a few nice apps for French, there are plenty of apps for learning Afrikaans, but which ones are the best? If you have tried one, send me your review to publish it here. If you are a developer with an Afrikaans app send a brief description with screen shots an I will post it on the blog.
Lekker week almal!

I always try and make the search for learning Afrikaans resources easier. How I haven't seen this site before, baffles me. Heinsuniverse is just great! The graphics of the site and videos can do with a make over but otherwise it is just fine. Follow the links below:

BeyondPod Podcast Manager
The wonderful world of Podcasts!
I have recently discovered a great app for downloading podcasts to my phone. This means that I don't have to download a podcast every time I listen to it, like with most apps out there.
For you learning Afrikaans, this is a great way of listening to informative topics on the go and not waste too many megs reloading every time!
A podcast in Afrikaans is a "potgooi", usually we hate to translate directly from English but this word sounds cute and thus widely used. Pot means pot and gooi means cast, as silly as it seams the three legged iron cast pot has a big cultural significance. The "potjie" as it is known was used to cook in by the Voortrekkers when the moved away from the Cape when the English colonised them. Generally food that is cooked in this pot is called "potjiekos" and it tastes great! Many recipes are available and this is a great example of how history influenced our culture. Although many Afrikaners don't know this our cooking is a mix between European and Malaysian cuisine. Enough about food!
When you have downloaded the app from the Play store, search using the following keywords:
- RSG -Dis die een
- JA FM (which is also an on line Afrikaans Radio Station)
- Vrye Teuels Potgooi (Not for beginners, but Verdant you might find it very interesting)

Lingq
Lingq is a great online programme for learning languages. Unfortunately is doesn't offer afrikaans yet but you can go vote for Afrikaans to be next language at https://www.facebook.com/questions/10150249705278786/
Listening is Learning
Since I am Afrikaans I might not understand the problems that you are experiencing. Eventhough I am learning French and Setswana and understanding the difficulties in learning a new languages, I think that language learning is a personal journey. Please tell me what you are in need of so that I can make the blog more relevant to you. Listening is learning.
If you want to listen to online afrikaans radio got to http://www.rsg.co.za/. This is not a radio station that I can listen to the whole day as it is really diverse. There is something for everyone, so check their programme schedule and choose something you like or expand your interests.

Digital Dialects
This site helps you learn vocabulary through lists and an accompanying game for every list. This is meant for beginners and the site is easy to use. Hopefully this site will expand their content in the future as it is a great method of learning for both children and adults.
